Dec-15: The first shared conference between Migal and Tel-Hai Collage on bioinformatics

18 December, 2016

Dec-15: The first Research and Computing conference jointly organized by MIGAL Galilee Research Institute and Tel-Hai College, titled "‪Facing high-throughput ‪data analysis challenges in life sciences”, was held at Tel-Hai Campus. More than 150 researchers, students and industry representatives participated in a special event aiming at establishing a bridge between basic science and applied research and development and discussed the challenges of high-throughput data analysis in life sciences. The conference incorporated talks by leading scientists from Ben-Gurion University, the Weizmann Institute, University of Haifa, Technion, Bar-Ilan University, Tel-Hai College and MIGAL as well as by speakers from the software companies IBM, SAP and NRGene.

Professor Alexander Bligh, Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space, was the guest of honor in the Conference. In his speech Prof Bligh referred to the longstanding collaboration between MIGAL and Tel Hai and expressed his conviction that it will lead to the creation of a university de facto in the upper Galilee. The Chief Scientist added that already today we can see that the geographic periphery is not necessarily a scientific periphery, but constitutes a center for science and research at first rate international level. Prof Bligh predicts that MIGAL will become the crown jewel of scientific research in Israel within the next decade.
