Avishai Levy


Mr Levy is an experienced manager and a business development professional specializing in managing technology companies, translational research and deal making. Mr. Levy Joined MIGAL in August 2013. In the years before MIGAL Mr. levy focused on the development of several novel technologies and small startups as well as providing external business development services to R&D companies. Some of these activities were done under Levidel Pharmaceutical Consulting and Management. Before that, for a period of approximately six years, Mr. Levy was CEO and President of Proteologics Inc., Delaware, a US holding company and CEO of Rehovot, Israel Proteologics Ltd, a public R&D company registered in the Tel-Aviv stock exchange (TASE “PRTL”) who among its shareholders, at the time, were Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and GSK. In addition to his diverse business duties Mr. Levy is a lecturer at the Biotechnology program of the Agriculture faculty of the Hebrew University. Mr. Levy academic record include Executive LL.M studies at Northwestern law school, an M.Sc. and LL.B degrees from Tel Aviv University and BSc, Agr. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Prof. (Emeritus) Dan Levanon

Scientific Director
Prof. Dan Levanon earned his Ph.D. from the faculty of Agriculture at the Hebrew University. Between 1996 and 2007 he served as the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Agriculture and rural development of the state of Israel, and was responsible for policy setting and management of Israel's agricultural and food production research.
Prof. Levanons' research interests include Applied and agricultural microbiology, Environmental biotechnology, (Recycling of organic wastes, of agricultural and municipal origin, Bioremediation of polluted soil and water) and Cultivation of edible fungi. He is the recipient of several EU grants and has published over 150 papers of which ~90 appeared in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Prof. Levanon is very active in the international scientific community and is a member of numerous International Research Committees, including in the EU, FAO and CGIAR. During his prolific research career he was a visiting research scientist at the ARS-USDA (Beltsville, MD, USA), Adjunct professor at the College of Agriculture, Pennsylvania State University (USA), visiting professor at Wageningen University and Research center – WUR (The Netherlands).
Prof. Levanons' vast experience also includes teaching as professor at Tel Hai college and administrative roles; he was the Chairman of MIGAL Galilee Research Institute, Scientific director of the Agricultural Research Organization- ARO (Volcani Center), Chairman of the board of directors -Tel-Hai college, and Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors of US – Israel Agricultural Research and Development fund (BARD).

Prof. Itamar Shalit

Prof. Shalit earned his MD at Sackler Faculty of Medicine Tel-Aviv University. He completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Children's Memorial Hospital Oklahoma City and earned a Master in Public Administration from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Before leading the Administration Prof. Shalit was Head NBC Medical Branch at the IDF, Deputy Director General for Research and Development of the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Director General of Carmel Medical Center, Haifa and Director General of Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel. Prof. Shalit is the author of more than 90 peer reviewed scientific papers, an associate Professor of Pediatrics at Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University and a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of Bioline Rx, Teva Innovative Ventures (until 2011), NasVax and Integra Ltd and a Board Member of MIGAL – Galilee Research Institute and Mor – Medical Information Institute.

Elkana Ben-Yashar

VP Agro Technologies and Head of Northern R&D

Elkana Ben Yashar managing director of Northern R&D - the Largest agriculture periphery R&D organization in Israel. Northern R&D is the agriculture research unit of MIGAL- Manage 12 groups: deciduous orchard's, subtropical, citrus, tropical, vineyards, mushrooms, flowers, vegetables, beef cattle's. develop and implement new technologies of irrigation, I.P.M. systems, increasing quality and quantity. Implement government's plan to develop rural area.
In past he was chairman of Ramat Magshimim board - one of the biggest agriculture farms and he served as a director in number of business enterprise boards.
Mr. Ben Yashar earned his BSc, Agr. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Uri Marchaim

Prof. Uri Marchaim

Head of European Desk at the Research Authority

Prof. Marchaim is involved in research on anaerobic digestion of organic wastes, in wastewater treatment, and in many ecological and waste utilization projects in Israel, the Caribbean, USA, Brazil, Yugoslavia, Italy and other countries. During his academic career Prof. Marchaim has conducted research in Rockefeller University, NY; Batelle Columbus Ohio; UMASS, Amherst and USP in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Prof. Marchaim serves in the board of directors and in advisory roles in the industry and holds a Diploma of Executive Business Management from the Tel-Aviv University.
Prof. Marchaim is a member of the MIGAL management team responsible for business and academic relations with Europe. Prof. Marchaim direct the European Desk of the MIGAL-Tel-Hai Research Authority, as well as being the Israeli coordinator of the EU projects CEREHA; SWAM; MISSTOW; SCOW and WE@EU. He is responsible for "matching" researchers and industries between the Galilee and Europe. Prof. Marchaim is the author and co-author of over 70 articles in journals and books and wrote two book-reviews for FAO.

Dr. Orna Harel

VP Business Development

Dr. Harel earned her PhD degree in Biology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Cell Biology and Metabolism Branch at the NIH. Having worked as a scientific and business consultant she has extensive experience in developing strategies for securing government/industry funding for applied research. As VP of Business Development of GAVISH - the tech-transfer arm of MIGAL - she is responsible for mapping scientific opportunities at the institutional level and managing the effort to identify new growth opportunities for innovation. She is also responsible for the evaluation and commercialization of MIGAL's IP portfolio through identification of potential industry partners, technology presentations and deal structuring.

Libat Malka

Chief financial officer

Libat Malka is Migal’s CFO. Her responsibilities include interface with financial institutions, tax authorities and the Office of the Chief Scientist of Israel. She oversees financial reporting related to research grants and Migal’ s dealings with government agencies Libat is a board certified public accountant (CPA) and has additional training as a CFO and in Financial Accounting for EU Research Funding from the European Academy for Taxes, Economics and Law. She has over ten year experience as finance manager.

Ruth Shushan

Operation Manager

Mrs. Shushan has over 20 years of professional experience in MIGAL. In her current position she is responsible for organizing and managing the ongoing operations of MIGAL offices and provides overall assistance to the CEO. Ms. Shushan duties include managing the daily relationship with collaborators, consultants, professionals, academia and government representatives. Ms Shushan is also responsible for the coordination of conferences, and events.

Mrs. Aviv Elbaz Nudel

Human resources

Joining Migal on 2016, Aviv has over 10 years of professional human resources experience
specializing in small to mid-size organizations. Her broad experience includes recruiting,
training, performance management, career development, employee relations, benefits,
compensation, payroll, safety, and compliance issues.
Aviv was recently employed as a Human Resources manager at a large communication
company where she was responsible for setting up a new office branch.
She previously ran a preschool education system in Yesod- Hamaala.
Aviv earned her BA in education and teaching from Tel Hai College.

Iris Edri

Northern R&D Administrator

Iris is an office manager at MIGAL for 28 years.
During her line of work she acquired experience in many different fields including direct contact with government offices, budget management and supervising of the different funding resources available.
Iris had been leading all of the incoming revenue of Northern R&D and is in charge of dispersing the revenue according with company policy.
Iris is also the administrator for a special International European program, in which she is in charge of all the Israeli financial and administartive reports,
In addition, she is in charge of managing the local office, a major role which includes local office services and personal and professional interaction with local customers.
