Mérieux NutriSciences expands into Israel with the acquisition of Milouda & Migal Laboratories

15 July, 2015

Mérieux NutriSciences establishes itself for the first time in Israel, acquiring Milouda & Migal Laboratories. With this acquisition, Mérieux NutriSciences continues to consolidate its position as the premier international leader in food safety and strengthens its presence in the region.

Mérieux NutriSciences benefits from almost 50 years of experience in the food testing sector and operates over 80 laboratories in 20 countries. Mérieux NutriSciences continues its expansion with increasing investments in attractive and fast growing markets.

Founded in 1980 as a subsidiary of Milouot, a holding company offering vegetable and fruit production, animal feed and poultry processing activities, Milouda laboratory was initially dedicated to test Milouot’s products. Milouda joined with Migal’s food testing laboratories in 2011, and developed the company’s expertise in analytical testing. Migal laboratories grew as a division of the MIGAL Galilee Research Institute, an interdisciplinary applied research institute whose mission is to promote the industrial, economic and academic development of the Galilee.

Operating for other clients since 2000, Milouda & Migal Laboratories offer a full range of microbiology and chemistry testing services, mostly dedicated to food & environment testing.

With facilities in Haïfa and Kyriat Shmona, Milouda & Migal Laboratories are among the most advanced laboratories groups in Israel. The laboratories are ISO 17025 certified and accredited by Ministry of Health, Agriculture, and Environment. Mérieux NutriSciences will continue developing these two sites, operated with highly skilled employees, and will keep close relationships with Milouot and MIGAL Galilee Research Institute. Mérieux NutriSciences foresees potential future cooperation with MIGAL Galilee Research Institute to further enhance its innovative scientific research activities.

Philippe Sans, President and CEO of Mérieux NutriSciences, commented “The acquisition provides us entry into this flourishing testing market and gives at the same time Milouda & Migal Laboratories access to the complete range of capabilities of Mérieux NutriSciences network worldwide. It is therefore an excellent opportunity for both of us”.

Raya Harel, CEO of Milouda & Migal, and Omer Harari, Executive Chairman, welcome the acquisition and the expression of confidence that Mérieux NutriSciences shows in Milouda & Migal Laboratories. They stated, “This opportunity will allow our operations, our teams and obviously our customers, to benefit from a leading company, with world class standards and expertise”.

Avishai Levy, Chief Executive Officer of MIGAL Galilee Research Institute said "The presence of Mérieux NutriSciences at our facility in Kyriat Shmona is an important phase towards the establishment of the Agro-Biomedical Center specialized in science-based advanced nutrition. Mérieux NutriSciences is a unique organization. Their culture of promoting applied research and their experience in food safety regulation is synergistic to the activities and plans of the Galilee Research Institute and hopefully soon we will broaden our collaboration towards these goals.”

Onn Barzilay, CEO of Milouot Group, commented "The executive team at Milouda & Migal Laboratories supported by the Milouot Group has built that market-leading company over the last decade. We are proud to be the owner through that period of extraordinary growth. Backed by the Mérieux NutriSciences resources, we believe Milouda & Migal Laboratories will continue to flourish in the years ahead.”
