Northern R&D is a Division within MIGAL whose mission is to develop regional sustainable agriculture production systems. It offers regional applied research solutions spanning 10 different disciplines. The scientific agenda of Northern R&D reflects a “Bottom UP” approach whereby the farmer’s participates regularly in setting objectives for the overall activity. Research at Northern R&D is based on a skilled scientific staff of Ph.D. researchers, which comprise 50% of its' personnel, technicians and students. There are ten major working groups in the organization dealing with different plant and animal sciences. Each working group sets up its own objectives in a process of analyzing the needs and requirements that resulted from continuous and transparent discussions with farmers all year round.
