Dr. Bercovich is the Scientific Director at the Molecular Genetics and Pharmacogenetics Laboratory. His expertise in the field of human genetics is utilized in the laboratory through rapid screening of mutations and SNP’s in DNA and RNA sequences, using the denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC) apparatus. This unique instrument is the first of its kind in Israel. Dr. Bercovich has been focusing on recognizing and identifying genetics diseases and cancer in humans with molecular biology methods for the past five years. During the last two years (until August 2001), he conducted research at the Human and Molecular Genetic Laboratory, of the Department of Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas, USA. The lab is considered one of the leading and most sought after centres for fellowship training in the field of human genetic research and diagnostics in the United States. The efforts of this research center are directed towards the identification of common and rare genetics diseases, including numerous cancers and genetics therapy through molecular methods as well as continued development of new methods for diagnosis. Dr. Bercovich is fully informed in all methods of molecular biology and in this framework, his remarkable expertise in operating the new techniques for identifying mutations in human, the DHPLC, is outstanding. Dr. Bercovich is considered one of the worlds’ leading experts in these techniques, conducting in the last few years tens of thousand samples. In addition, his expertise extends to organizing, analyzing and conducting scientific projects, including statistical analysis of research, combining medical elements with basic genetics research.
