Prof. Dan Levanon

Prof. Dan Levanon, the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Agriculture, is a member of Kibbutz Kfar-Blum in the northern region of Israel. He gained his academic education in the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D). 
His research interests are applied and agricultural microbiology including:  Recycling of organic wastes, bioremediation of polluted soil and water and several aspects of research on edible mushrooms.
His teaching experience includes courses for B.Sc. degree and supervision of M.Sc. and Ph.D students.
His academic experience include: Senior research scientist for the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), visiting research scientist at the ARS-USDA (Beltsville, MD) and adjunct professor offered by the College of Agriculture, Pennsylvania State University.
His publications include over 140 articles, book chapters etc. of which over 80 were published in fully reviewed international scientific journals.
His administrative record includes:  Chairman of Upper Galilee County, Director of MIGAL Research Institute in northern Israel, Director of Agricultural Research in northern Israel, Scientific director of the ARO (Volcani Center).
For his achievements in agricultural R & D, he was nominated as Israel Government nominee for the World Food Prize (1989).
