Visit of the Chinese Ambassador at MIGAL.

On Friday, May 6th , the Chinese ambassador Mr. Chen Yonglong and his wife, the general and commercial councils and their staff visited Migal. They receive explanations on the structure of Migal as a regional research center, the activities in agriculture and scientific education. We discussed possible collaboration in the future – exchange of students, incorporating schools from China into the Internet science educational activities and exchange of researchers and experts. The ambassador proposed to organize another meeting in order to develop a more specific program. The visitors visited Migal’s labs and receive explanation on the research in the department of Plant Genetic, Fishery and Mushroom groing.

Visit of MK Orit Noed in MIGAL.

On the 10th of March 2005, MK Orit Noked, the Knesset member and the Deputy Minister in the Ministry of the Vice Prime Ministerer Shimon Peres’ office, visited MIGAL as a visitor of the “Galilee Development Authority”. She was briefed on the activities of MIGAL, MOP-ZAFON, The “Cluster” project that is developed with the “Galilee Development Authority” and MATI, and on the activities of the Association for the Advancement of Science Education in the Galilee.

Invitation of Prof. Uri Marchaim to Chile

Following a visit in MIGAL of a delegation from Chile with representative from the Ministry of Science and Technology, as a result of a visit of the General Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Tali Rosenbaum, in Chile, Prof. Uri Marchaim was invited by the Universidad de la Frontera, in Temuco, to present in an international conference in Villarrica, 25-27 April, the activities of MIGAL in regional development. In addition, several meetings with the 9th Region authorities and the researchers at the University took place, discussing possibilities for collaboration. The visit was reported in the local newspapers and in the university’s web-site.

Invitation of Prof. Moshe Gophen to Chile

The University of Valdivia invited Prof. Moshe Gophen for MIGAL for a series of lectures for a course in Limnology for undergraduate and graduate students. Four days of the two weeks’ course were in an experimental station next to Panguipulli Lake, near the Villarrica Volcano. Prof. Gophen gave 10 lectures on Limnology issues, centered on the Sea of Galilee and Lake Agmon. Fifteen students participated in the course, which included practical work of measurements and sampling in the lake and the peninsula near Valdivia.
