COGNILIFT is a multidisciplinary project led by MIGAL – Galilee Research Institute within the NutriBrain call, aiming to promote healthy brain ageing through lifestyle and nutrition.
Building on the successful Finnish FINGER model, MIGAL coordinates a 6-month randomized controlled trial among older adults (60+) in Israel to test how multidomain lifestyle interventions—including physical activity, diet, cognitive training, social engagement, and cardiovascular management—combined with a polyphenol supplement (Memophenol™) can slow cognitive decline.
MIGAL leads the clinical, metabolic, and microbiome research components, integrating EEG, metabolomic, cytokine, and gut microbiota analyses to assess cognitive function and brain health.
The project includes:
A trial phase in Israel (n=200) led by MIGAL
A validation phase comparing biomarkers across international Worldwide-FINGERS studies
A mechanistic phase using mouse models to uncover neurobiological pathways
In collaboration with partners from the University of Bologna and University of Amsterdam, and with support from the Alzheimer’s Association of Israel, COGNILIFT aims to develop an evidence-based intervention tailored for Israeli communities while contributing to global efforts to prevent cognitive decline.
