Prof. Shalit earned his MD at Sackler Faculty of Medicine Tel-Aviv University. He completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Children's Memorial Hospital Oklahoma City and earned a Master in Public Administration from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Before leading the Administration Prof. Shalit was Head NBC Medical Branch at the IDF, Deputy Director General for Research and Development of the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Director General of Carmel Medical Center, Haifa and Director General of Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel. Prof. Shalit is the author of more than 90 peer reviewed scientific papers, an associate Professor of Pediatrics at Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University and a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of Bioline Rx, Teva Innovative Ventures (until 2011), NasVax and Integra Ltd and a Board Member of MIGAL – Galilee Research Institute and Mor – Medical Information Institute.
