The refrigeration laboratory was established in 1959 by the Organization of Fruit Growers in Israel for the purpose of adapting the storage conditions in controlled air that exist in the wider world to the Israeli fruit, apple and pear, mainly. In 1997, new and modern research facilities were built in the new residence of the laboratory in Kiryat Shmona and its official structure was changed and today it is defined as a limited company.
The range of crops in which the company is engaged in research includes almost all kinds of fruits grown in the country and even a limited number of vegetables. The areas of research in which we deal are the physiology and pathology of fresh agricultural produce and include studying the optimal ripening condition for storage and marketing, storage temperatures, controlled atmospheric compositions in sealed rooms or passive packaging, eradication of rot and more.
The overarching goal of laboratory research is to enable maximum storage and marketing duration while maintaining optimal product quality.
