Biofilm growth dynamics in porous media

We study the role of pore-scale structural heterogeneity on the initiation and biomass accumulation during biofilm formation in porous media, using microfluidic porous medium devices.

Effect of heterogeneity on pore-scale oxygen dynamics

Under partially saturated conditions, the distribution of water and air in porous media is controlled by pore-scale structure and heterogeneity. We study how these structure-controlled distributions affect the dynamics of oxygen concentrations using pore-scale microfluidic porous media with fluorescent oxygen sensors.

Solute mixing and reactions in porous media

We study the effect of structural heterogeneity and liquid saturation on solute mixing and reactions in porous media, under different flow conditions
