The Tel-Hai College and Migal Galilee Research Institute are seeking a postdoctoral fellow in the field of data / information sciences, agricultural / environmental sciences or a related field to support the development of a Decision Support tool for agricultural decision makers including farmers. The fellow will be based in northern Israel (location is flexible) at the Migal Galilee Research Institute and will conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Adam Abramson in the Agricultural Economics and Sustainability Science Lab.
The project aims to:
1) Understand how data can help farmers and other agricultural decision makers to optimize their decisions and agricultural outcomes.
2) Assess which data sources are available for this goal, and which data sources might be developed such as through crowdsourcing or big data integrations.
3) Develop a digital Decision Support tool based on such data and explore ways to use advanced modeling techniques and data analysis to produce valuable information and insights for agricultural stakeholders.
Other relevant research directions may be identified by the candidate according to their interests and capabilities.
The aim will be to conduct the above research and publish 2-3 high impact publications on these topics, while identifying other promising directions for research.
Requirements:
- PhD in a related field (Agricultural or environmental sciences, data science, computer science, geographic information sciences, etc).
- Knowledge or experience with basic data manipulation and analysis, and/or algorithm development.
- Experience with advanced statistics and quantitative data analysis.
Preferable to have:
- Knowledge and experience developing data-based information or decision support tools.
- Entrepreneurial experience or interest in development and growth of digital platforms.
- Experience with ICT or digital platforms for agriculture.
- Knowledge of relevant computer / data science tools (Python, R, etc), cloud computing, and/or machine learning tools.
- English and Hebrew fluency.
Starting date: ASAP
Term: 1-2 years, with option for extension
